On July 28, 2024, Mission Encounters International was honored to rename the “Helene Medical Clinic” in Helene Honduras to the “Thompson Medical Clinic” in dedication and honor of Marije Thompson and Jamera Thompson (no relation). These two women devoted their time and resources for many years to live out the gospel to the people of Helene through the medical and dental services of the clinic. After participating in a short-term mission trip to Helene in 1998, they both felt called to move to Helene in January 1999 and begin the work of making health care services available to the residents of Helene. Through the support and guidance of several medical & dental providers in the United States along with the countless individuals, clinics and churches who supported the effort through prayers, labor, financial and medical donations, they were able to begin providing services on a full-time basis in 1999. Jamera continued to serve in Helene for six years and Marjie stayed until her return to the US and untimely passing in 2007.
It was a great honor to recognize Marije and Jamera for their devoted, compassionate love and service to the people of Helene. Jamera was able to attend the celebration with her son Jonathan and sister Juanita Boulds. The afternoon celebration was filled with stories of lives touched by their work, a tour of the recently updated clinic and of course some cake and punch.
God has been so faithful to continue this ministry for the past 25 years. Many wonderful medical providers from all over the world have brought their gifts and talents to serve in Helene. Additionally, we cannot express how thankful we are for all the organizations, churches, and individuals who have supported the clinic prayerfully and financially over the years.
As MEI grows and expands to other nations, we rely on the faithful giving of supporters like you to help us carry out this Great Commission work! Please pray about how God is leading you to give, and then click the link below to invest in strategic missions.
