“Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.” – Genesis 2:15
In our last update, we joyfully updated you on the new school construction, which continues. Not to overshadow exciting new community development projects, we wanted to keep you all informed of the on-going stewardship of our existing buildings. These are used daily by the community, visiting Short-Term Mission (STM) teams, visiting Honduran medical/dental professionals, our on-site team and others.
Our existing buildings, the oldest being over 18 years, total over 10,000 square feet of useable space. The main building houses our medical/dental clinics, a fully operational kitchen, dining area, classrooms, covered decks, a third story prayer deck and large sleeping areas for STM teams and on-site staff, including bathrooms and showers. Other buildings include four separate suites for couples (converted a couple of years ago for classrooms), on-site team housing units, a large covered gathering space, other classrooms and a concrete generator building.
The maintenance of all these structures is an on-going process requiring a bibical stewardship of funds, labor (STM teams, local laborers, and on-site staff), priority setting and planning. For example, due to a special gift of funds for past due maintenance and other related needs, the following past due maintenance items were recently completed:
• New membranes for the desalination system
• New hardware for doors
• New tile for bathroom showers
• Repair school classroom roof (schoolroom recently added on side of main building)
• Repair sewer drains under main building
• New pump for purified water system in main building
• Battery terminals replaced
• Clinic roof repair
• 25 screens replaced
• New medical clinic weight scale
• 48 medical trays
• New shelf in resource room
• Repaired the rotten wood in various outside deck areas
Thank you and blessings to all of our MEI supporters, who through your gifts of time/labor and/or financial gifts, allow MEI to maintain our Helene campus for God’s purpose to serve and disciple.
