2021 Update – Another Growth Year, During Difficult Days

September 13, 2021 Admin Comments Off

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.  – Matthew 28: 19-20

There is no better way to invest time, energy, or resources than to help someone come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Yes, we are still here and continuing to share the Gospel and grow as the Lord desires.  Unfortunately, for various reasons, we have not communicated our 2021 activities.  So, as a catch-up, here is a brief summary of our 2021 activities to-date:

April – Larry and Sheila return to Helene, after a restful and restorative time in the US, along with completing numerous in-person visits to supporting churches, donors, interested churches for starting support and/or sending a first-time Short Term Mission (STM) team. MEI Helene on-site ministries are fully functioning, from medical/dental clinics to clean water distribution.  Five STM teams are scheduled so far for 2021.

May – Men’s Discipleship Bible studies are increasing in frequency and attendance.  Helene Community leaders are increasing in numbers and commitment.  Helene Christian English School (HECS) teacher training was completed, with HECS projected to start in June.

June – New Community Development plans are moving forward, including the purchase of an all-purpose tractor, funded by a generous donation, for the trash collection program and other island projects. HECS enrollment grows past our current classrooms space.  After prayerful thought on additional building space, MEI worked with the next door Methodist Church to make use of their mission house for the needed additional classroom space.

July – Two STM teams visited, completing many outreach activities.  Work continuing on completion of large Gospel banners to be posted along the pathways of the island.  Repair work completed on MEI’s Roatan House, which is used when visiting Roatan and for future MEI mission expansion plans.

August – Another successful STM team visit, including hosting Kid’s Club very morning, countless support and gifts for HECS, and painting of the Methodist Church mission house, which we are using as an additional HECS classroom.  On-going conversations with Medical and Dental support groups for visiting Helene. Also researching continues on efficient methods to identify qualified persons to join the on-site MEI team.

It is with a heavy heart we share the news of the August passing of a dedicated MEI team member, Mike Duncan.  Mike, Larry’s cousin, served faithfully as MEI’s social media coordinator, and was instrumental in establishing various MEI communication platforms, including a comprehensive video recording platform, which will grow in use to communicate more effectively and personally.
