“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
In our last newsletter, we joyfully herald one usually overlooked area of a strong missionary / ministry service, the facilities ongoing maintenance needs.
As a reminder, our existing buildings, the oldest being over 18 years, total over 10,000 square feet of useable space. The main building houses our medical/dental clinics, a fully operational kitchen, dining area, classrooms, covered decks, a third story prayer deck, and large sleeping accommodations – including bathrooms and showers. These buildings are used daily by the community, visiting Short-Term Mission (STM) teams, visiting Honduran medical/dental professionals, our on-site team and other visiting guests.
The maintenance of all these structures is an on-going process, requiring a biblical stewardship of funds, labor (STM teams, local laborers, and on-site staff), priority setting and planning.
One recent example of this whole stewardship process coming together was the much-needed replacement of 13 very old toilets. While replacing a toilet is not an easy task to begin with, just think about the added efforts required for getting the new toilets to our remote location, removal of the existing, dealing with the old, often much repaired plumbing, tight working spaces, etc.
We were very blessed by a supporter for the gift of the toilets, along with his experienced skills and leadership of local laborers, for the complete installation.
Thank you and blessings to all of our MEI supporters, who through your gifts of time / labor and financial gifts, allow MEI to maintain our Helene campus for God’s purpose to serve and disciple.
