Update on Our God-sized Food Distribution Project

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  – Philippians 4:19

Dear Friends,

I need to brag on Jesus.  About 6 weeks ago, due to the stay-at-home orders here in Honduras, Jesus really impressed on me the need for food distribution in Helene.  God spoke to us and asked us to join Him in taking care of His wonderful people of Helene.  So we invited you to help with prayers and donations for food, fuel and medications.  With your gracious response, $2,000 was donated for purchasing food for the Helene Island communities.

Jesus spoke to my heart as to who to ask to get involved in this project.  I started with Elizabeth, and Jesus, who is always at work, spoke to Arla and she got involved.  Then Keyna, from the Bight community joined up along with Matilde, Doel and Ronald.  Wednesday morning the volunteers traveled by boat down island from Helene to Roatan. With strict Honduras Covid-19 restrictions in-effect, none of us were to be on the road traveling because of the shutdown.  So we stopped by the police station to turn ourselves in and share what God had told us to do.  Our God-sized purpose was to buy enough food to distribute something to every one of the 215 homes on Helene.  The police called ahead and made a path for us to move forward.  When we came to police checkpoints, the pictures of our trucks had been sent ahead so they just waved us through.  Wow, that is God.

Nothing happens efficiently in Honduras. I had to go to the bank, but it was not my assigned day to go, per the Honduran corvid-19 restrictions. Matilde went with me, explained our situation, and I was moved to the head of the line so I could get funds to buy the food. We purchased the food in record time. Keyna and Alra had called ahead and arranged for our groceries to be bought at wholesale prices and assembled for us to just pick up and pay for. We loaded up the trucks and were done by 10:30 am. I am still in awe how this happened so fast.

As a big thank you to our shopping team of five, I stopped at Bojangles, which has been closed due to the shutdown but had just opened today and purchased chicken meals for all who helped in this shopping/gathering process. We thanked Jesus a lot. As we pulled up to the Helene community dock, the ladies informed me, “We will share it up”. (“Share it up” – is a local saying). Then they gave me, Mr. Larry, my orders to go home and rest and they would call me when it is was time to give out the food. So here I am, blessed beyond measure.

It was a great time to deliver food out to the community. All were thankful for God’s provision. It was a great time to glorify God for what He was doing and for allowing us to join Him. I was also amazed when I saw approximately 30 people working together to share and make the food ready to be delivered from house to house.

Every home, a total of 215 homes, received manna from heaven provided by God. (The provided food supplies per house would last at least one week and included a wide selection of items such as; chicken, eggs, oatmeal, butter, sugar, flour, rice, cooking oil, beans, etc.) One lady excitedly remarked, “We are having chicken tonight! We have not had chicken in two weeks!”

So today, those of you who responded to God’s call to give, allowed joy to enter the hearts of people who were trusting God to meet their every need. Giving to people we all love and want to encourage during these difficult days.

Thank you for loving Helene with us.

God is our great provider.

In His service,

Larry
